BNCC Version 3: Six aspects for revision

This publication, produced in accordance with an invitation by the National Education Council (CNE) and aimed at shedding light at future policy making initiatives and the practice of educators in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT), has been prepared by the British Council and offers a critical analysis of Version 3 of the Common National Curricular Base (BNCC), dealing solely with the English Language component. The BNCC is a document which will regulate education in Brazil, and it has great potential to create a fair educational system in the country. Its purpose is to define the essential skills which every student, throughout Brazil, will be expected to acquire during the years of basic education, and to promote fairness and equality by channelling “education in Brazil towards overall personal development, so as to build a just, democratic and inclusive society” (BNCC, version 3, p. 7).
